Archives Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
By Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown
I had the opportunity this week to recognize some very important Oregon State Archives volunteers at the annual volunteer appreciation lunch.
Those being recognized range from fresh faces to Archives volunteers who have been working with us for years. Harriet Miller celebrated 18 years of volunteer work at the Oregon State Archives. She has provided invaluable help in building the Early Oregonians database by matching names in online cemetery records. Martin Jarvis has only been with Archives for just a year. He’s, been doing incredible research on a variety of records from Clatsop County Circuit Court and reviewing Attorneys General correspondence for information related to the 1913 Open Beaches Act.
These volunteers have done the work equivalent to two full-time positions. We are so grateful for their help and eager participation.
The luncheon was held in the gallery of the Archives building, which now is home to an exhibit of a collection of photographs featuring Oregon’s rivers and streams. These photos were taking by Archive staff member Gary Halvorson and made for a beautiful backdrop on such a happy occasion.
